Volcanoes, Poland, Israel & Aries Activity

As I’ve been gathering my thoughts as to what I would like to share with you in this newsletter I feel a bit like Pat Robertson, the fundamentalist Christian Television show host, who is notorious for analyzing tragic catastrophes in terms of what he deems is God’s obvious disfavor regarding some moral failing on the part of the inhabitants of the region suffering from the tragedy. ‘Saturday Night Live’ took inspiration from Mr. Robertson in putting on a skit presenting a daily Christian Weather Report, which was quite humorous.

I am obviously not using my Fundamentalist Christian morals aligned to a vengeful anthropomorphic God in Heaven, but I am looking at the symbolic messages being communicated in the heavens, reflecting to us the karmic lessons, potentials, and challenges being played out by various entities, whether those be us as individuals, a nation or the planet as a whole.

That being said, I have a few comments to make in this ‘weather report.’

One brief comment is in regard to the U.S. relationship with Israel, which has been experiencing greater stress and tension in this time period than in any time one can remember.

I pointed out in my book that Pluto, the planet which makes one look deeply within oneself, to see where you are coming from love and where you are coming from fear, has been moving through the U.S. 1st House of our self-image of ourselves since 2000. In 2003-2006 Pluto was opposing our Mars in the Seventh House of relationships, which I used to predict the likelihood of war and conflict in that time period, i.e. Iraq.

In 2009, into 2011, Pluto has been, and will continue to be in opposition to the U.S. Venus and Jupiter, both in the 7th House of Relationships as well. In an individual’s chart, Venus or Jupiter in the 7th House usually promise an ultimately happy marriage or pair-bond relationship.

Pluto opposing our Mars was focusing on our warlike aggressive tendencies in relationships. Pluto opposing the Venus and Jupiter is likely to involve major pressure and tension on our normally harmonious relationships or partnerships, i.e. our allies.

I wrote a whole chapter in my book about the Arab/Israeli conflict and the U.S. involvement in that, which I will not go into here, but I will post that chapter on my website for anyone interested.

The point I want to make here is that this Pluto tension with allies is going on and is likely to continue. I would sense this influence is also relatable to the tensions with Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan, and even to Britain’s recent Parliamentary intention to no longer use the words: ‘special relationship’ to describe the partnership between the U.S. and the U.K. The pressure is on; we well see what unfolds in this regard.

In follow-up to my earlier comments about Poland, where I stated that, Astrologically, there seemed to be an indication that the tragic air crash was in relation to working out a karmic relationship to a ‘former enemy’ i.e. Russia, I just wanted to point out that it seemed, in light of the above, that it was no accident and quite poignant, that the Icelandic Volcanic ash disruption of European air travel made it such that the only foreign dignitary from a major global power who was able to attend the Polish President’s funeral was President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia. It was clearly further emphasis that this tragedy was a deep process for Poland and Russia to go through together. Obama arriving with all of his international ‘star power’ would have been a major distraction from the true matter at hand.

And yes, the volcano. I have personal history with volcanoes. In the early 70’s I rented a house in the town of Volcano, Hawaii where, at times, you could see a red glow through the forest at night from my porch. And it wasn’t the sunset.

In 1980, when Mount St Helens erupted in Washington State, I was in the direct path of the ash expelled in the eruption. I witnessed the sky turning blacker than I’ve ever seen it at 3 o’clock in the afternoon and then start to ‘snow’ four inches of ash. The words kept going through my head: ‘You know not the hour at which I come.’ I was also remembering having read at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon that scientists believe that when that volcano blew there was no sunlight for two weeks. When I went to bed that night I had no idea if I would see the sun the next day.

Pluto, mythologically the Lord of the Underworld, is associated with Volcanoes. Pluto is now in the sign of Capricorn, which represents mountains, economics and governmental structures. I have often noted the Pluto entry into Capricorn in 2008 as what I used to predict economic turmoil beginning in 2008.

Looking at the recent earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, and China and the volcano in Iceland, it does seem that our Mother Earth or Gaia is starting to shake, cough and spit a lot more frequently.

As I’m putting the final edits on this newsletter we have a new dark Plutonian eruption from the underworld affecting our status quo structures with potential devastation, that being the oil spilling out of the bottom of the ocean heading for the Gulf Coast.

The comment which really grabbed my attention in observing this recent volcanic eruption, however, was the statement that the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland, which often erupts in tandem with her sister volcano Katla (a lot easier to pronounce) are believed to have had a large part in creating the conditions which led to the French Revolution when they erupted in 1783. This eruption led to economic and social turmoil in Europe and elsewhere in the world. Here is a comment from that time:

The British naturalist Gilbert White described that summer in his classic Natural History of Selborne as

"an amazing and portentous one … the peculiar haze, or smokey fog, that prevailed for many weeks in this island, and in every part of Europe, and even beyond its limits, was a most extraordinary appearance, unlike anything known within the memory of man.

"The sun, at noon, looked as blank as a clouded moon, and shed a rust-coloured ferruginous light on the ground, and floors of rooms; but was particularly lurid and blood-coloured at rising and setting. At the same time the heat was so intense that butchers' meat could hardly be eaten on the day after it was killed; and the flies swarmed so in the lanes and hedges that they rendered the horses half frantic … the country people began to look with a superstitious awe, at the red, louring aspect of the sun."

One reason I was particularly grabbed by this was because, during the French Revolution, the planet Pluto (intensive death/rebirth) was opposite to Uranus (sudden revolutionary change). Starting in 2011 until 2016 these same two planets, Pluto and Uranus, will be squaring each other, creating somehow similar social, political, economic stresses and transformations.

I decided to look at the chart for the 1783 eruption to see if there was any parallel to today. And, sure enough, when the chart appeared on my computer screen I went 'Yikes!'

Something I have noted in my Predictions for 2010 was that there was going to be some major outer-planet tensions in Cardinal signs, Capricorn, Cancer, Libra, and Aries, signs which begin each season. They get things going.

In July the last of five Saturn/Uranus oppositions taking place over a two –year period will have shifted from a Virgo/Pisces mutable sign axis (mutables end the seasons), to a Libra/Aries Cardinal axis of tension. And, the Saturn in Libra opposite to Uranus in Aries will both be ‘t-squaring’ Pluto in Capricorn.

Well, on June 8, 1783 Uranus was also opposite to Saturn in cardinal signs. Uranus was in Cancer and Saturn in Capricorn. And, they were both ‘t-squaring Neptune in Libra.

Both t-squares, then and now, are in the early degrees of cardinal signs. In essence, these two charts will be triggering each other.

What will this mean? What will happen? God only knows, especially when it involves Uranus, which is always surprise, but I would keep an eye on those volcanoes.

One comment I would like to make is, myself, I have tremendous respect for Mother Nature and even derive some satisfaction when she demonstrates how she is clearly more powerful than humankind. Not that I enjoy tragic natural events but, for example, it is one reason why I enjoy living in the isolated, snowy mountains where, during the winter months, the activities and assertions of human will are greatly subdued by a natural power greater than ourselves.

If I had been with my brothers and sisters in Europe during this recent volcanic eruption I am sure I would be thinking, once again, ‘You know not the hour at which I come.’ And I know most of my friends over there would share in that sentiment. The overall collective response which I have heard on my radio, however, has not felt like a a deep humility and respect towards a power greater than man’s will to control, but rather a focus on the inconvenience, the economic stress for the airlines, and the resentment of the governmental restrictions perhaps unnecessarily crating that economic stress and inconvenience etc. Rather Capricornian issues.

I still believe the overall theme of the Pluto in Capricorn years, 2008-2025 is of a death/rebirth of any tendency to over-rely on concrete, material, financial reality for your security and identity.

Additionally, on May 27 of this year Uranus goes into Aries. On June 6 Jupiter goes into Aries. And, on June 8 Uranus and Jupiter conjunct each other in the first degree of Aries. The theme of the Aries energy can be understood by the karmic lesson of someone born with the Sun in Aries. According to Ascended Master Hilarion someone who is Aries is someone who, in some previous lifetime, risked their own life to come to the rescue of another individual. As a reward for this courageous act they are given, in this life, an additional energy, physically, mentally or emotionally. Their challenge is to be able to express this energy in such a way that it does not harm others or themselves through aggressive expression or behavior.

Uranus in Aries is likely to create a period of sudden willful engagement towards a new freedom. Jupiter in Aries creates exuberant enthusiasm and confidence but can also be over-confident and exaggerated.

The first degree of Aries is the ‘New Year’s Day’ of the Astrological Year. It is the first day of Spring.

Having this Uranus/Jupiter conjunction on this point is highly propitious and should start some whole new cycle in motion. Dane Rhudyar’s Sabian symbol for this degree of the Zodiac is” A woman just risen form the sea. A seal is embracing her” The keynote: “Emergence of new forms and of the potentiality of consciousness.”

One significant event I am already aware of being scheduled close to this June 8th conjunction is the planned public protest in Iran on the anniversary of the disputed Presidential election there on June 12th.

The Iranian Islamic Republic as born with the Sun at the 12th degree of Aries, so they definitely have some historic and on-going lessons around aggressivity and willfulness. The major Astrological hits on their Sun in Aries are coming later. The first will be Saturn opposing their Sun in October. Maybe there will finally be some restrictive sanctions clamping down on them around that time.

The place which seems to be particularly in line to be triggered by this Uranus/Jupiter Aries 1st degree conjunction is Pakistan. They have their Mars, which rules Aries, in the 1st degree of Cancer. So this Uranus/Jupiter conjunction in Aries will be exactly squaring their Mars. Mars in Cancer is an early childhood that involves conflict and aggression. The Mars is also in their 10th House of work, career, and role in the world. This makes it such that you can put a lot of energy into whatever role you want to play in the world, but there can be a tendency to rub people the wrong way with aggressive tendencies.

I would expect some kind of willful flare-ups in Pakistan around this. This may coincide with the upcoming military operation in Kandahar in Afghanistan this summer.

In July Saturn will oppose this Uranus/Jupiter conjunction from the 1st degree of Libra. I will share more about that in a later newsletter.

It does seem that right now is really a relative ‘calm before the storm.’ It should be a rather hot summer.

In the meantime, as I tell my clients, the planets hit the positions in the chart to teach a lesson. Our choice is whether we learn the lesson gracefully, or kicking and screaming.

May we all be forewarned and thus forearmed.

Blessings,
Steffan Vanel
