The London Bombings
by Steffan Vanel 7/12/05
Dear friends,
The morning after sending out my last newsletter I
woke up to the news of the London bomb attacks.
Individuals have written to me asking what my take was
on these recent events. I have decided to write down
some of my thoughts and observations to share them
with you.
First of all, I am well aware of the ongoing lessons
for the United States occurring at this time as I
spent so much time studying its Astrology Chart for my
book. I am unfamiliar with the Astrology Chart of
Britain, although I have my own
psychological/sociological observations of Britain
from the time that I spent living there.
The obvious factor for the United States is that Pluto
is still moving through our First House of self-image
in opposition to our Mars in the Seventh House of
Relationships. Mars in the Seventh House has a
tendency to experience conflict in relationships and a
tendency to ‘rush into battle when opposed’. The last
time that Pluto was bearing down on this Mars in a
tense way was during the War in Vietnam. This is why I
predicted that if we went to war in Iraq it would play
out in a similar way to Vietnam.
But the Seventh House involves all relationships and I
have previously noted that during this time of intense
Plutonian pressure on our Mars that those who partner
with us in our Martial endeavors are also subject to
their own experience of Plutonian intensity and
death/violence, hence the bombings in Madrid and
London and the kidnapping and other violence towards
other coalition allies in Iraq.
I was, personally, surprised and dismayed that Tony
Blair, a liberal politician would be so gung ho to
join Bush’s war plans in Iraq. But I have been
dismayed with Britain before. During the War in the
Falklands I heard a speech by Margaret Thatcher
praising their soldiers victory in battle that day by
killing so many Argentineans. I said to myself that
this doesn’t sound like the 1980’s. It sounds like the
1940’s when humanity still felt fit to praise the
demise of human souls in the cause of National pride.
Friends of mine in Britain said that during the
Falklands War if you said anything against it in a pub
they would beat you up.
In Hilarion’s book ‘The Nations’ he says that England
has lost her Majesty. This is quite apparent. A
nation, which went from virtually ruling the world to
being one of the relatively minor sideline players. I
often felt a deep unconscious depression in England as
a result of this loss of their previous glory and
majesty. Ironically, Germany, who lost the last Great
War, has had no choice but to go through a death of
their previous identity. In fact Hilarion says that
souls who incarnate now in Germany are souls who have
previously had too great an attachment to patriotic
militarism, ‘to fight the good fight for one’s land
and country.’ By living now in a nation where that
kind of blind belief in nationalistic aggression has
lead to the greatest evil of the 20th century it takes
the fun out of adopting such an attitude.
During the Falklands War I felt that this was
England’s bizarre attempt to regain their regal glory.
I feel a similar unconscious motivation in Tony
Blair’s willingness to poodle along with George Bush,
to show his aggressive toughness, also thereby
forestalling accusations by the British Tories of
Blair’s lack of aggressive toughness.
I am in agreement, however, with the French ambassador
to the UN who, during the lead up to the Iraq war,
said: “The question is whether we are going to
continue to use war and violence as a way of dealing
with our problems.”
Anyone who has watched the Israeli/Palestinian
conflict should be aware that violence in that region
of the world only begets more violence. Today I heard
a news story about wide scale reports of abuse of
prisoners by the current Iraqi regime. Where will it
stop?
The only Astrological factor I am aware of in relation
to Britain is that it is a Capricorn country. One
thing about Capricorns, they are incredibly good at
being able to endure suffering, hence their ability to
survive the Nazi Blitz in WWII. But sometimes
Capricorns will endure suffering even when they don’t
really need to. I hope such is not the case for my
friends in Britain.
One noted difference between Britain and the US. The
US has a Sagittarian Ascendant self-image of itself as
honest, upright and morally strong, whether true or
not, and a tendency towards ‘foot in mouth disease.’
The British newspaper ‘The Guardian’ has come out with
strong criticism of several American newspapers for
writing bombastically about ‘hotbeds of Islamic
militancy’ in British towns and cities, without having
any true awareness or sensitivity to the reality of
the 2 million Muslims living in communities in
Britain. I say Bravo for the Guardian.
These are the last years of Pluto in Sagittarius,
whose shadow side is fanaticism. The fundamentalist
exaggerated beliefs of the world are feeling that they
are all being threatened. They think they are being
threatened by each other, but they are really being
threatened by the power of love and peace which is the
ultimate destiny of this planet. In this I have faith,
faith that the troubled times through which we must
pass are but ‘labor pains ‘ before a glorious new
birth.
Blessings to you all,
Steffan Vanel
