It does seem that the unprecedented level of flooding from Hurricane Harvey, so soon after the Eclipse is resonant with the deep transformative soul-searching that we were expecting to emerge from this cosmic event passing over our nation alone.
The positive message I feel about it, however, is in relation to my sense of the Eclipse opposing the Aquarian Moon of the US. The message being that we need to allow the Leo pride and arrogance which is limiting our ability to come together as one family to die and be reborn.
Unfortunately, a national tragedy is a common, yet effective, way to facilitate that coming together in brotherhood. Despite our racial and political differences, what is happening in Texas and Louisiana is evoking the recognition that we are all brothers and sisters of one nation. May our love and compassion pass through all boundaries.
As I mentioned in my last two newsletters, the degree of the recent Eclipse, 28 degrees 53 minutes of Leo, is now a potentized ‘Eclipse Point’ in the sky, to which we Astrologers will be watching for celestial bodies which will be triggering that point for weeks, months and years to come. There are two coming right up on the 3rd and 5th and one later on the 17th/18th of this month.
We enter September on a Rising Moon, until the Full Moon on the 6th.
2 – Mars in Leo trines, harmonizes with, Uranus in Aries. A powerful, dynamic, proud fiery will energy, feeling new freedom, or energized by being applied in the cause of new freedom, or both.
3 – Mercury in Leo conjuncts Mars in Leo. Natally either of these planets in Leo can engender an overweening pride or arrogance. Joining together can inspire a rise in leadership communication, or, overweening pride and arrogance.
Note: This will be conjuncting the Total Eclipse point mentioned earlier, as well as the Mars and Ascendant in Leo of President Donald Trump: and it will be opposing the Aquarian Moon of the U.S.A.
I, for one, will be watching for what unfolds. I am expecting the themes I already mentioned as the Leo/Aquarius polarity of the American Eclipse being activated to emerge again.
4 – The Sun in Virgo, which can be overly analytical and critical, will be opposing Neptune in Pisces, which can be confused, deluded, escapist and identified as a victim. This opposition can bring out the worst in each, but so that these tendencies can be recognized and consciously moderated and integrated.
5 – Mars goes into Virgo, until October 22nd.
Later in the day Mercury stops its retrograde motion and turns direct, however, it does so while still right on the Eclipse degree. A planet’s day of ‘stationing’ is always a powerful moment. For Mercury to do so in this degree, especially as it is turning direct, could involve some powerfully transformative new communications for good or ill.
6 – The Sun in Virgo/Moon in Pisces Full Moon opposition. This is the first Full Moon since the Eclipse New Moon. It is therefore another activating factor. This Virgo/Pisces Full Moon is the time of the year when we feel a tension I described to some extent in the entry on the 4th, but here it is between the conscious Solar identity in Virgo and the unconscious, instinctive Lunar identity in Pisces.
Getting the analytical Virgo energies to trust and receive from the emotional Pisces energies in a healthy, mutually beneficial way is the order of the day.
9 – The Sun in Virgo trines, harmonizes with, Pluto in Capricorn. Here that analytical, conscious Virgo energy can be applied harmoniously in service to the deep Plutonian transformations trying to take place within the deeper structures of our societies and psyches.
Later Mercury moves from Leo in to Virgo, until the 22nd.
12 – Venus in Leo, warm romantic, but can be overly idealistic, receives some harmonious grounding, discipline and ‘reality check’ from a trine to Saturn. Good for dedicated new emotional commitments.
13 – Sun in Virgo squares Saturn Saturnian authoritative concrete restrictions can put a serious limitation on one’s ability to function successfully in a rational analytic mode. Don’t push too had but use the time to assess what works and what doesn’t work, and know this period won’t last.
15 – Venus in Leo sextiles, harmonizes with, Jupiter in Libra. A great time for idealistic, romantic aspirations.
16 – Mercury conjuncts Mars in Virgo. A good time for an empowered analysis of the details involved in any endeavor, and the strength to explain/communicate those details.
17 –Venus in Leo trines, harmonizes with, Uranus in Aries. Emotional, fiery, willful, surprise freedoms is what I would normally say about this aspect. However, it also so happens that on this day, or the next, the Venus in Leo will be conjuncting that often mentioned ‘Eclipse Point.’
So, this time we have Venusian/Uranian emotional freedom coming to bear upon the Leo/Aquarius, leadership vs. humanitarian equality and group consciousness themed polarity of the Eclipse. Another period to watch, as well as a time to further enhance your own death/rebirth, using new emotional freedom, or so as to manifest more emotional freedom.
19 – Venus goes into Virgo, until October 14th.
Mercury in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces. Mercury normally functions quite well in Virgo, although prone to being a bit critical (I know, I have Mercury in Virgo) but on this day that well-functioning analytical Virgo mental energy is challenged by deep, transpersonal, oceanic sensitivities that defy rational analysis. A challenge to surrender, without being deluded.
The Virgo energies of this day are quite a bit further emphasized due to the fact that less than two hours after the Mercury/Neptune opposition will be the annual Sun/Moon New Moon conjunction in Virgo, which is always a time to dedicate, integrate conscious and unconscious functioning in the interest of service and detailed analysis of which seeds to harvest and save for planting in the next cycle.
With Neptune opposing Mercury in Virgo at the same time there is an added ‘test of faith’ during this annual process.
22 – Mercury in Virgo trines, harmonizes with, Pluto in Capricorn. Moving away from the challenge with Neptune our Mercurial, mental, understandings and communications can be harmoniously put into service to an earthy Virgo/Capricorn transformation of the deeper structures of our societies and individual psyches, and/or, be capable of clearly understanding and expressing the concrete ways and reasons for doing so.
A bit later the Sun goes into the month of Libra.
24 – This last week of September looks a bit challenging, or contains some ‘great opportunities for growth’ : – )
On the 24th Mars in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces. Mars in Virgo can get even more caught up and obsessive about Virgoan details. Being challenged by a Piscean Neptune to trust and surrender, while not being deluded or moving into a ‘victim/victimizer’ program will be the challenging opportunity for growth.
25 – Mercury in Virgo squares Saturn in Sagittarius. Saturn square Mercury is always going to restrict and authoritatively discipline our understandings and communications. Mercury in Virgo, however, is trying to understand and communicate with facts and details, while Saturn in Sagittarius is trying to authoritatively restrict and discipline based on Sagittarian beliefs and ideals. They will seem to be at odds with each other, and the challenge is to reach a beneficial mutual recognition and integrated compromise, aware of the gifts and limits of both.
27 – Another tense aspect. This time an opposition between the Jupiter in Libra idealism about how relationships and diplomacies should function, and Uranus in Aries courageous, revolutionary urges towards liberating freedom from old patterns that have outlived their purpose.
This opposition will be harmoniously aspecting both ends of the Leo/Aquarius oppositional tension in the U.S. Eclipse polarity. So, who knows, maybe this pumped up Jupiter/Uranus tension will serve some new breakthrough.
28 – Pluto has been moving retrograde since April. Today it stands still and starts to move direct. So some of the ‘behind the scenes’ transformations may start to really get enacted, or the effects of those transformations become more evident, as Pluto starts to ‘break ground’ in completely new territory now.
We end this last week of September with yet another Virgo/Neptune in Pisces opposition, this time with Venus in Virgo.
Neptune is considered the ‘higher octave’ of Venus and, normally, they have a comfortable resonance with each other.
Venus is, in fact, ‘exalted’ in Pisces, while Venus in Virgo is her ‘fall.’ so, to emotionally disentangle from too great of an over-idealistic, analytical criticism using Neptunian/Piscean compassion and faith, without falling prey to delusion or a fearful victimhood, will be the challenge of this time.
Later on this day Mercury goes into Libra, until October 17th.
