Uranus entering Taurus

As I mentioned in my May forecast, Uranus entered Taurus on the 15th for the first time in 84 years, and will remain there, with brief interludes into neighboring signs, until 2026. So clearly we are looking at a longer collective, global influence here.

Now, I always pay attention to any symbolic events which may take place at the time of an outer planet moving into a new sign as an indication of the new energy field we are moving into.

Uranus itself is the planet of sudden change out of the blue which you don’t expect. It can create ruptures and accidents, but its true purpose is to serve as a liberator from old patterns which have outlived their purpose. It was discovered in 1781, at the end of the American Revolution and on the eve of the French Revolution.

Taurus is an earth sign and there are two things I noticed relating to surprise earth changes around this time of the entry of Uranus into Taurus. One was the sudden eruption of the volcano in Hawaii.

The other took place within hours of Uranus entering Taurus last Tuesday. That was the passage of the unusually large Asteroid 2010WC9 making an unusually close flyby of the Earth. According to EarthSky.org: this was “one of the closest approaches ever observed of an asteroid of this size.”

Now Taurus is also related to money and finances and most Astrologer’s predictions are oriented towards those areas of influence, and indeed, if we look back at previous time periods in history when Uranus was in Taurus, we can see these periods did involve a lot of sudden changes in financial realities.

The most recent time periods were 1934 – 1942 – the deepening of the Great Depression, Roosevelt’s implementation of the New Deal, but also the rise of fascism and the outbreak of World War II.

1850 – 1859 – During this period there was ‘The Panic of 1857’ considered to be the world’s first worldwide economic crisis, but also an outbreak of revolutions and the spread of communist ideology in many nations in Europe.

In America, in 1884, we had the establishment of the Republican Party, whose purpose at that time was to serve as a vehicle for anti-slavery sentiments, leading to the eventual election of President Lincoln and the Civil War.

1767 – 1775 – The Industrial Revolution gets into full swing, the original Boston ‘Tea Party’ and the outbreak of the American Revolution, and, as a prelude to the anti-slavery sentiments arising in the 1850 – 1859 period; Rhode Island becomes the first state to prohibit the importation of slaves. And slavery is outlawed in Britain in this period.

I often feel, however, that most Astrologers don’t fully understand Taurus. Here is what Hilarion* says about someone born with the Sun in Taurus:

Taurus
The Taurus individual has, at the soul level, a deep understanding of the meaning of love. This is attested to by the rulership of Venus over this sign. The grasp of the right approach to love and its true meaning is again a kind of gift which the soul has given itself — in this case, as a result of an incarnation in which a self-sacrificing love was cherished for another, usually without being fully returned. This act of selfless devotion allows the soul to tap deeply into a wellspring of pure love at a very high spiritual plane, which constantly feeds into the soul a great capacity for love and affection. Again, along with the gift comes a responsibility. In the case of Taurus, the task is to learn to express the love side unconditionally, simply allowing the affection to flow into and through the personality without damming it up, and without attaching conditions to the giving of affection. If there is any damming up or restriction of the affectional impulses, a problem arises due to the desire of this abundance of love to find a suitable object. Denied an external abject, i.e. another person or persons, the love will usually lavish itself upon the individual’s own physical body with its senses the primary focus. It is from this process that the oft-quoted tendency for self-indulgence in the Taurus stems. Another difficulty can also arise if the nature of suppressive habits in the Taurus individual is such as to prevent the thwarted affectiona1 urges from expressing through self-indulgence. In such instances, it is possible for the love to center not on another individual but on possessions or money. This can occur when in the early childhood there was little physical affection shown by the parents. Thus, in the case of Taurus, the task at the personality level is to express love, without allowing the affectional urges to manifest as self-indulgence or an over-stressing of money or possessions.

So clearly the main emphasis here is that this Venus-ruled sign has a deep understanding of the meaning of love at a very high spiritual plane. The fixation on sensuality, money and possessions is simply that love, when it can’t go out, is trying to come back in.

In my research I’ve noticed a fair number of dictators are all Taurus. Saddam Hussein was a Taurus. Hitler was a Taurus. Lenin was a Taurus. Emperor Hirohito in Japan during World War II was a Taurus. And we know they must have had some quality of love to be able to inspire their followers like that, but they have this problem with desiring possessions, like other people’s countries.

As noted earlier, when Uranus was last in Taurus we saw the rise of Fascism around the world.

The emphasis that I recognize in these previous historical periods, however, are not only financial changes but often financial changes forcing economic instituted realities which are not serving in a compassionate way the needs of those oppressed or unfairly treated, to be overthrown, whether that be slavery, the British taxation of the American Colonies, or the lack of government involvement towards those suffering from the Depression prior to Roosevelt.

Behind the economic changes is a need for greater love and compassion for one’s fellow man as manifest within economic realities.

This, my friends, is what I believe we have to look forward to in the years ahead. During the previous years of Uranus in Aries, 2011 – 2018, people felt the dynamic fiery will of Aries combined with the revolutionary spirit of Uranus to overturn things and fight for what they want, whether that was the Arab Spring, British ‘Brexit,’ or Donald Trump.

Now, the Uranus in Taurus energies is where some actual concrete financial structural changes are likely to really take hold. And, it seems that when this revolutionary spirit to transform economic realities manifests, and is stimulating fear and hate rather than love and compassion, it has, and can now, lead to a new rise of fascistic tendencies taking concrete hold of material economic realities.

The recent Uranus in Aries revolutionary spirit, however, also brought about the surprise, never expected, success of Bernie Sanders. I do feel that there is the potential for this Uranus in Taurus period to open the way and inspire a completely new ‘New Deal’ and a transformation of the huge divide between the 1% and the 99%.

Indeed, on May 5th 1818, during the month of Taurus, we have the birth of Karl Marx the founder of communist/socialist ideology. So we can assume that behind his economic theories, which may have been a bit materially focused, was a quality of love at a high spiritual level.

In 2020, in addition to Uranus being in the earth sign Taurus, we are also going to have a triple conjunction of Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn in Capricorn, another earth sign and also related to financial structures.

Obviously, here in America this coincides with the next Presidential election, where I believe the dangers, and the potential, will be tremendous. I pray that we choose wisely.

*Astrology Plus by Hilarion, the book which I am always quoting from and has been out of print for some time, is now available as an EBook on Amazon.

Parkland High School

The Rebirth of the Soul of America or the New Sparta?

I stated earlier this year that I was going to examine and write some things about what I see happening, Astrologically and otherwise, for the United States at this time. I tend to wait, however, until some dramatic current event drives me to want to look closely at the Astrologcial ‘weather’ and to share those insights with you.

Well, the recent Parkland High School shooting and the responses to it, especially the student inspired #neveragain movement, has been one of those times.

I knew that all this year the planet Neptune was squaring the self-image of the United States, that is its Rising Sign or Ascendant in Sagittarius. I’ve spoken and written about this self-image of ourselves at critical points in the past, most especially noting that Pluto, the planet of complete transformation of which you have no choice, was less than one degree from that Ascendant on September 11, 2001, for the first time since our birth in 1776.

The sign Sagittarius on the Ascendant gives a love of adventure and travel, and a youthful enthusiasm, but also, according to Hilarion*:

This sign rising will tend to make the individual see himself as upright, honest and morally strong, whether true or not.

I am reminded of something the noted Astrologer Steven Forrest once said describing Sagittarius, something to the effect of: “Not always right but never in doubt.”

Saturn was conjuncting our Sagittarian Ascendant during the election year of 2016, hardening people into their own Sagittarian ideological camps. Neptune was also already in tension with that Ascendant at the same time in 2016, which may be attributed to the confusion and the sense of ‘victimhood’ often cited for the motivations of a large number of Trump supporters. There was a lot of Neptunian victim/test of faith on the left as well of course.

Saturn is still working on our self-image as he takes two years to go through our 1st House of self-image. It is really Neptune, however, moving through our 3rd House of thinking and communication, which has been making peaks of tension with our, at times, self-righteous and self-deluded Sagittarian self-image this year. The effects of this are obvious in a President who according to the Washington Post: ‘President Trump has made 1,628 false or misleading claims over 298 days.’

And obviously we, on the other side, are experiencing the confused victimhood of having to be vulnerable to such a force at the head of our government and in the branches of government controlled by his party.

With the President’s popularity dipping in the polls, however, we can see that even many of his previous supporters are having a Neptunian ‘test of faith’ and a wavering in their self-assured faith in the rightness and righteousness of their Sagittarian beliefs.

Now, on a more hopeful note, Neptune has also been trining harmoniously with our Sun in Cancer. With this there is a glimmer of faith that these new communications (3rd House) coming from the Neptunian ‘victims’ of Parkland students can actually restore a connection and a faith in who we really are and are meant to be as a nation, represented by our Sun in the caring, nurturing protective sign Cancer.

This is part of a very long-term process. During the whole second half of this year Saturn will be opposing all of the U.S. planets in Cancer, and triggering our Sun/Saturn Square in the process. The Sun/Saturn Square relates to the incredible polar tension in this nation, a polarizing tension which at one time brought us to a Civil War. To put it mildly, the Mid-term elections are likely to get pretty nasty.

Now the Parkland High School Shooting took place the day before the Solar Eclipse. The Eclipse was in Aquarius, conjunct to the Moon in Aquarius in the Astrological Birthchart of the United States. The ‘Great American Eclipse’ of last summer was opposite to that Moon in Aquarius, making this a ‘bookend’ event, of a focus upon our need to really come together as one human Aquarian family. Something we have done in the past but are sorely lacking now. The Parkland shooting and the reactions to it reveal this difficulty and confront us with the need to allow something to die and be reborn, the symbolic request of an Eclipse.

The chart for the Parkland Shooting event has Neptune in the Sagittarian 9th House of moral courage and belief system.

On the day of the shooting it was squaring Mars in Sagittarius, becoming exact three days later. That same Mars was exactly conjunct to the U.S. Sagittarian Ascendant two days after the shooting.

This, I believe, is the birth of a new movement, coming out of a sense of victimhood, inspiring a call to action fueled by Sagittarian honesty and moral courageous outrage.

For those of you who remember, or are aware of, the deaths of four students during the Anti-Vietnam War protests at Kent State University in Ohio in 1970, I would say that, for this younger generation, the Parkland High School is their Kent State Moment.

Kent State was when large numbers of young people who may have previously been on the fence about how actively engaged to be about what was going on in the political reality of the nation knew they had to get off of the fence.

Hearing the Parkland student Cameron Kasky calling out Marco Rubio for his acceptance of NRA contributions definitely reminded me of the political fervor of 1970. Rubio’s rebuttal also reminded me of the intractable forces we were facing in 1970 as well. We had Richard Nixon as our President at that time.

The students at the Parkland High School were born around the time of the Columbine High School mass Shooting in Colorado and have grown up with mass shootings with assault weapons and school drills to prepare for such events. I somehow feel a parallel with my generation growing up with the fear of being shipped off to Vietnam.

Of course then, as now, there were regressive right wing forces bitterly opposed to what we were fighting for. We wanted to end the War and others wanted to ‘Nuke Hanoi.’

It is to be noted as well that many of the young students affected by this new student movement emerging from Parkland High School are not yet old enough to vote, as was the case with many students and soldiers sent to fight in Vietnam.

When I heard Donald Trump’s proposal to have concealed weapons carried by teachers I came up with the metaphor of the US moving into being reborn as ‘The New Sparta.” Sparta the city-state in ancient Greece described in this way:

Sparta was unique in ancient Greece for its social system and constitution, which configured their entire society to maximize military proficiency at all costs, and completely focused on military training and excellence.

It seems that the next logical move in the militarization of our schools in the new United States of Sparta following Trump’s proposal being enacted, would be, for those who feel the need to make their own violent statement to the social environment of their respective school communities, to progress to bomb-making capabilities.

I am, however, also aware of one very significant thing going on behind the scenes. It is the fact that the Progressed Sun of the United States, the Progressed Sun indicating the movement of consciousness identity through the chart, has been moving through the sign of Pisces since 2004, and has been moving into harmony with our more emotionally sensitive and caring planets in Cancer.

Now it is also true that our Progressed Sun has also been squaring our Sagittarian self-image, along with Neptune, as Neptune in the sky is also conjuncting our Progressed Sun. Again, this is all easy to recognize in the confusion, fear and lack of faith challenging everyone, on both sides of the political divide at this time.

I just now checked to see when the U.S. Progressed Sun would reach an exact trine of harmony with our Sun in Cancer. Our Sun is at 13 degrees 22 minutes of Cancer. What I saw just now gave me a chill. The exact trine is happening right now. Our Progressed Sun reached 13 degrees 22 minutes on February 23rd. It will be on that exact minute until March 1st.

The noted Astrologer Liz Greene once said that the Progressed planets indicate the movement in consciousness taking place deep within, and the outer ‘transits’ indicate the means by which that movement is taking place.

So I would say take heart my friends. On the deeper level we are returning to a conscious relationship to our caring, devoted Cancerian Soul. The challenging victim/victimizer transits to our Sagittarian self-image is for the death of that false sense of ourselves so we can reconnect to our essence of who we really are and were meant to be.

It also seems clear to me that Trump and his cohorts are an eruption from the American psyche of our Shadow, the darker elements we prefer not to see or recognize. But these shadow elements need to be seen and recognized, understood, stood up to, but ultimately loved, healed and re-integrated.

It is hard in these confusing, vulnerable times, but I am trying and I encourage you as well to, in whatever way you can, try to Keep the Faith!

Of course all we can do in any given moment is to do our best and let the Great Spirit do the rest.

Blessings,
Steffan Vanel

PS: To aid in the endeavor of keeping faith here is what the Ascended Master Hilarion said about America in the book ‘Nations’:

AMERICA has lost her generosity.

Once, when the world was groaning in the aftermath of a great and terrible war, she stood forth with her riches in her hand, offering them freely to those who had been broken by the strife. She did not refuse to give of herself, of her wealth, of her energy and of her love. What Europe has become today is largely a result of the generosity of the American spirit and the ideals of brotherhood which this country has held so high.

But today America has drawn back and has closed the door to other nations. She has sealed herself behind a wall and refuses to offer help to those less fortunate than herself.

This great country must have its rebirth along with all the rest. In many ways she is the greatest nation the earth has ever known. But she is flawed today by a blindness which has crept into her perception of the world. In the terrible years ahead, although she herself will be preserved almost to the end from the full onslaught, she will see with increasing alarm the destruction and the loss which the baser passions of man will bring.

At last, in an agony of the soul, America will again stand forth with her love, to rescue and nurture the peoples of the world whose nations have collapsed and disintegrated in the terrors that man has brought upon himself. By that act she will again and for all time-be purified. In the new age that will dawn for mankind, America will lead the world as a great and burning beacon of truth, of justice, of peace and of purity.

Astrology of 2018

Note: Watch for a special announcement soon in regard to private consultations with me later this month.
___________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Friends, Clients, and Subscribers,

I have been working on this article for some weeks now. Obviously we have already entered into 2018 with a flurry of new Donald Trump media-grabbing news. The excerpts from the book: ‘Fire and Fury,’ do seem to confirm many of the observations I made in my lectures now posted on YouTube about him and his Astrological make-up.

What I can note here is that there was a Mars/Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio operative during the weekend that those secret revelations hit the news. Scorpio is secret, hidden emotions, Mars is will and aggressivity, and Jupiter is enthusiastic expansion of your belief system.

It was moving into a square to the Mars in Leo/Leo Ascendant of President Donald Trump. The Leo Ascendant being the pride and arrogance tendencies afforded to someone to compensate for insecurity in previous lives. The Mars in Leo conjuncting that Ascendant is his mode of response whenever that hidden insecurity is attacked, basically to ‘hit ‘em back ten times harder.’

The approaching Jupiter Square to that Leo Ascendant will be exact on November 8th. The Midterm elections are on November 6th. hmm….

I will be following this article with additional newsletters about the impending effects of all of this upon the U.S. Astrological chart and the Astrological chart of Donald Trump in the year ahead.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy what I have written here, which has a bit more of a global perspective of what is happening in 2018.

2018 – An Astrological View

There are some major Astrological shifts occurring this year which will definitely change the flavor of the times we are evolving through. These major shifts, however, feel like a ‘prelude’ or a ‘setting the stage’ for the major alignment of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn in 2020.

Astrologers have already started to predict that in the future they we will look back and refer to Earth history in terms of before and after 2020. Suffice it to say, there is likely to be a major transformation of the basic structures of global society at that time.

For example, the last time there was a major line-up in Capricorn similar to this was in 1989 at the time of the collapse of the Berlin Wall, and subsequently the Soviet Bloc and the end of the Cold War.

How we prepare ourselves and our societies in the two years leading to 2020 will determine how well prepared we will be for the transformations of 2020. Basically it will determine to what degree we can enter into that period gracefully and to what degree we will have to enter into it ‘kicking and screaming.’

I will, no doubt, be talking about the specifics of 2020 in future articles. To give it a brief description, it feels like the death of the old Patriarchal order of things as we enter the Aquarian Age, Aquarius being the sign following Capricorn into which Pluto will enter in 2024 for the first time in 247 years.

In looking at 2018 we can see that one of the significant trends shifting in 2018 actually took place on December 19, 2017, the day the Republicans signed their tax bill in the Senate. On that very day Saturn moved into Capricorn where it will remain, except for a few months of retrograde, until December of 2020.

Pluto has already entered Capricorn, back in 2008, providing the deep unconscious awareness that the way in which we live materially (financial and otherwise) must go through a major death/rebirth. This has already been spreading through the unconscious psyche of the entire planet, especially as a result of the financial crisis of 2008, but also from the threats of Global Warming, the greater and greater extremes of wealth inequality etc.

Saturn, however, is the planet that binds energy into form. It makes things ‘real.’ When Saturn conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn in 2020 the deep Plutonian unconscious awareness of needed/impending transformations will somehow become ‘real.’

Now, watching what happens when a planet first enters a new sign often provides us with a symbolic omen of the impending journey of that planet though that particular sign

For example, on the day that Uranus entered Aries (beginning a 7 year period) was the day that the Fukushima Nuclear Reactor accident in Japan took place. Aries is a fire sign and has lots of energy. Controlling it can be a challenge. Uranus is the surprise, out of the blue, uncontrollable lightning bolt of change.

The early part of this decade has been largely influenced by seven squares between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. Those of you who have been reading my newsletters for some time may be tired of hearing about it. Suffice it to say it is relatable to all of the surprise (Uranus) transformations or efforts of transformation (Pluto) of old structures, hence the ‘Arab Spring,’ ‘Brexit,’ and the host of the TV show ‘The Apprentice’ now being President of the United States of America.

The fact that the Republicans passed their tax bill on the day of Saturn’s entry into Capricorn does seem to bear the quality of an omen, whether you believe that it will stimulate the economy and create jobs, or it simply will benefit the wealthy and balloon the National Debt, I think it is serving as a potent image for what we will be facing in 2020, a serious restructuring in a ‘real’ way of economic structures.

The collective response to that Republican bill in the two years ahead will have a lot to do in determining the ultimate fate in 2020. Obviously, 2020 will be a hell of a year for a Presidential election.

Capricorn, however, is ambitious and self-reliant and responsible and can be used in a powerful determined way in the service of compassion as well as greed, by the political Left as well as the Right.

Saturn rules Capricorn and it is actually about the only largely good place to have Saturn. When I get to interpreting Saturn in someone’s chart I usually preface it by saying ‘Unfortunately everyone has Saturn somewhere.’

Here is what Hilarion* says about Saturn in Capricorn:

Capricorn
In Capricorn, Saturn is in its own sign, and is therefore very strongly placed. In general, all of the positive Saturnian traits will tend to be present, and some of the negative ones depending upon the degree of affliction. The positive traits are those of seriousness, stability, caution, an instinct to seek safe positions, ambition and a strong ability to do well in the world’s terms, i.e. worldly Success. The negative traits are emotional coldness, an over-emphasis on worldly success, hyper-punctuality. The matter of aspects must be carefully judged as the absence of negative aspects will mean that none of the Saturn-in-Capricorn lessons are slated for the life being lived.

Personally I plan to use this Saturn energy to finish at least one of my not yet completed books as well as to ‘concretize’ (A good Saturnian term) some of my other visions and ventures.

But this is what Hilarion says about Saturn/Pluto aspects in general in a natal chart:

Saturn aspects to Pluto are not well understood by present-day astrologers, as these contacts are essentially in the unconscious sphere and only periodically surface into the conscious ego or into the surrounding life-pattern. The meaning of a Saturn/Pluto contact is that of an extremely far-reaching change being required in the individual in this life. It is a change that affects the unconscious sphere deeply. In some manner an attitude, outlook, way of thinking or approach to some area of the life experience must undergo a radical alteration, one which in almost every case will be forced upon the individual by events or circumstances beyond his control. The signs and houses holding the two planets will give an idea of the change that is required. Pluto will usually point to the general area, while Saturn will describe the means by which the change must come.

The last time Pluto was in hard aspect to Saturn was at the time of 9/11, another time where we could talk about history before and after that date.

So this is what we have happening as we approach 2020. One way or another it should give us some 20/20 vision.

There is another approaching Astrological ‘weather pattern’ this year which is also likely to bear upon the financial/political/security themes of our lives. That is the entry of Uranus into Taurus in May of this year, where it will remain, with a brief period of retrograde, for about 7 years. Taurus is also, along with Capricorn, an Earth sign. Taurus is the sign for which the question really is: ‘Are you going to choose the Love or the Money?’

Hilarion says that someone who is born with the Sun in Taurus is someone who has developed a quality of Love at a very high level in previous lives (they are ruled by Venus). Their challenge in this life is to be able to give that love unconditionally. If they have difficulty giving that love it may instead turn back towards themselves, focusing on their senses, or an over-valuing of money, possessions and material security.

So, what results will come from Uranus being in Taurus? Well if we look back in history as to what happened when Uranus was in Taurus before we can see that it was there from 1850 to 1859. This was the beginning of a new phase of the ‘Industrial Revolution.’ In fact, in 1851 we had Uranus, Saturn and Pluto all in Taurus.

Uranus rules technology and there were major technological discoveries in those years, allowing an unprecedented transformation of material existence at that time, and we could expect some similar developments in our current world.

This Industrial Revolution, however, also allowed the accumulation of unprecedented personal wealth, and with that, tremendous political power by certain individuals. In fact, at the end of this period, in February 1859, with Uranus in the very last degree of Taurus, was the first usage of the term: ‘Robber Baron.’

Here is some of the Wikipedia interpretation of the sense and historical usage of this term:

The metaphor appeared as early as February 9, 1859, when The New York Times used it to characterize the unethical business practices by Cornelius Vanderbilt. Historian T.J. Stiles says the metaphor, “conjures up visions of titanic monopolists who crushed competitors, rigged markets, and corrupted government. In their greed and power, legend has it, they held sway over a helpless democracy.”[2] Charles R. Geisst says, “in a Darwinist age, Vanderbilt developed a reputation as a plunderer who took no prisoners.”[3] Hal Bridges said that the term represented the idea that “business leaders in the United States from about 1865 to 1900 were, on the whole, a set of avaricious rascals who habitually cheated and robbed investors and consumers, corrupted government, fought ruthlessly among themselves, and in general carried on predatory activities comparable to those of the robber barons of medieval Europe.”[4]
The term combines the pejorative senses of criminal (“robber”) and aristocrat (“barons” having no legitimate role in a republic). Hostile cartoonists might dress the offenders in royal garb to underscore the offense against democracy.[5]

Saturn was also squaring Pluto at that same time, their first hard aspect to each other since 1851.

The next period we had of Uranus in Taurus was 1934- 1941, the period of the Great Depression. The depression started earlier, during the shocking Uranus in Aries period. The reason the Great Depression was later called the ‘Great Depression’ was because it lasted so long, awareness of which really came to bear during the period of Uranus in Taurus. This created a hunger for and acceptance of radical change in relation to financial economics. It brought Franklin Deleanor Roosevelt to the Presidency and his economic policies called the ‘New Deal’ (very Uranus in Taurus) and brought into being things like Social Security, Child Labor Laws, and Federal Insurance for our bank deposits.

1934-1941 also brought Adolf Hitler to power as he promised, and succeeded, in transforming the German economy. Uranus promises freedom from old patterns, but we can be impulsive as to what price we are willing to pay for that new freedom.

Of course all of this year’s Astrological movements will have its own specific effects on the Astrological Chart of the U.S., your own nation’s Astrological chart, and Donald Trump’s, chart. As I said earlier, I will be writing other articles about the possible effects of this Astrological weather on the U.S. and Donald Trump.

The other sign change of a slower moving planet in 2018 will be Jupiter moving out of Scorpio into its own sign of Sagittarius in November.

We just had two and a half years of Saturn in Sagittarius, which I think has put a serious heavy weight upon our optimistic enthusiasm towards our beliefs and aspirations.

Jupiter moving into Sagittarius right after the Mid-term elections I think will be relatable to whatever enthusiastic ‘rebound’ the Democrats will be feeling from the results of the election.

In fact, Uranus dips back for a few months into Aries, that sign of fiery willful energy, on the day of the election.

Additionally, aside from the usual run of Solar and Lunar Eclipses, there will be some nice harmonizing sextiles between Jupiter in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn, on January 15, April 14, and September 12.

I see this as a positive, expansive, Jupiterian enthusiasm willing to dig up secret, hidden, Scorpionic passions and desires, or the abuse thereof, (which we have already been witnessing since Jupiter entered Scorpio in November), but now working with profound Plutonian transformation of old, entrenched Capricornian structures and traditions. Kind of like Oprah Winfry’s speech the other night at the Golden Globe awards, followed by calls for her to run for President.

Jupiter will also start to harmoniously trine Neptune in August, so some of those aspirational prayers may actually be answered.

The outer planets spend a lot of time retrograde, going backwards, this year, so I don’t feel this year will see any really dramatic changes on the global scene.

That being said, the eclipses on July 12 and 28 involve hard aspects to Pluto and Uranus, which could add greatly to the intensity and sudden changeable quality of those events.

As far as how all of this may be affecting your own individual chart, as I said in my note at the beginning, soon I will be making a special announcement, which may interest you.

In the mean time, let us try to remember to choose the love and the faith.

Blessings,
Steffan Vanel

What’s Going on with the U.S., and Kevin Spacey?

Kevin_Spacey-wiki-commons
Kevin Spacey

I used to wonder how it was for Kevin Spacey to play such a dark character as Frank Underwood in the series ‘House of Cards.’ Now I really wonder what it was like for him.

First, what is going on with the U.S. lately? I see both some really positive supportive Astrological energies and some pretty challenging ones.

Saturn has been opposing the U.S. Mars and squaring the U.S. Neptune, which are natally square to each other in the U.S. chart.

This Mars/Neptune Square is something I have written about in great length in my book and subsequent articles. It was being activated by Pluto during the War in Vietnam and during the War in Iraq. It is indicative of our penchant for delusionary (Neptune) militaristic, aggressive, violent engagements (Mars).

Previously I have looked at this in our international relationships but clearly it is also a component of our domestic relationship to guns and violence.

The Saturn activation of this has been operative all year. I see it in the delusionary aggressivity between Donald Trump and Kin Jong Un, but also the mass shootings in Las Vegas and Sutherland Springs, Texas.

The recent attack in Texas has a particularly Neptunian quality to it. I can’t imagine a greater Neptunian ‘test of faith’ as having to watch children being murdered in a church during a prayer service.

In Las Vegas and Sutherland Springs the shooter’s motives and mindset are clearly not political, but rather some confusing, delusionary suffering playing out within the environment of our delusionary relationship to firearms.

I am happy to say that that Saturnian tension is starting to back off now, and we may find a respite from such events, although this component of our ‘curriculum’ is always there.

The on-going effects of Jupiter in Scorpio, which I wrote about in my last article about Harvey Weinstein, is obviously continuing to bring out and expand into the open (Jupiter), what were previously hidden, sexual abuses (Scorpio).

The phenomenon has been active around the world but the U.S. really seems to be the epicenter of the phenomenon. Well that Jupiter has actually been harmonizing, trining, our Venus in Cancer, our Jupiter in Cancer and soon our very Sun in Cancer.

I see this as expansive potential for a healthy reconnection to our positive Cancerian capacity to honor the feminine, and to choose caring and nurturing over selfish domination and power.

The Jupiter trine Jupiter was exact on November 6, and I relate this to the positive results (in my mind) of the recent Democratic victories in the recent elections.

Particularly poignant was the victory of the first Transgender person to a statewide office, defeating an opponent who prided himself on being Virginia’s #1 Homophobe.

Many of us may wonder if this is the end of the old order, of the old Patriarchy of cultural/political domination.

Next year Jupiter will be harmonizing with both Neptune and Pluto, so I suspect even more revelations leading to greater compassion and healing of old wounds. I think it bodes well for the 2018 mid-terms for the Democrats.

Also starting early next year, however, Saturn will start to oppose the U.S. Venus and Jupiter in Cancer, so I wouldn’t sense we have seen the end of old order (Saturnian) restrictions on our capacity to express caring, nurturing Cancerian energies too soon. This Saturnian restriction continues throughout next year. I am sure I will be writing about this more later.

Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey's Astrological Chart

Now this was a great disappointment for me as I have long been a fan of Kevin Spacey’s acting performances. And of course, his politics seemed to generally coincide with my own.

Of course I was curious to see what the Astrological agenda was behind the man that I thought I had a sense of.

The things I found are pretty interesting so I thought I would share some of it with you here.

First of all, Kevin Spacey’s chart is even more a sign of our times of what Jupiter in Scorpio is trying to bring about in our society than Harvey Weinstein’s was.

Kevin Spacey has, himself, Jupiter in Scorpio. To refresh your memory, or if you didn’t read the Harvey Weinstein article, here is what Hilarion says:

Scorpio
In Scorpio, ruled by Mars and Pluto, Jupiter promotes an excessive interest in the sensation/sexual outlet for energy. Afflicted, Jupiter here will cause the mind to play ceaselessly with the sexual fantasies and will tend to cause the individual to seek out this form of experience to an excessive degree. The major lesson is to moderate and control this tendency. In positive aspect, Jupiter in Scorpio ensures an ability to do well financially, and gives a strong sex drive.

Unfortunately for Kevin Spacey his Jupiter in Scorpio is ‘afflicted.’ It is square to his Mercury/Uranus conjunction in Leo. Here are Hilarion’s pronouncements for those two planets being in Leo:

Mercury in Leo:

Leo Mercury here if afflicted will aggravate feelings of pride, superiority and arrogance. The thoughts will revolve ever and only about the self, and the person’s life will seem to him to be a magnificent play in which he himself is the main actor, and has written all the parts. The main lesson is to see others as whole persons in their own right, living their own life-plays. Again, as with Taurus, shocks are to be expected in order to force the attention away from the self. These will come in relation to love affairs and also to children.

Uranus in Leo:

Uranus in Leo will naturally point to breaks, ruptures and uncertainties in the love-involvements. Inwardly this placement denotes a love nature which is unusual and lopsided in some way. The unexpected losses and sorrows in the love-involvements are intended to correct and balance the lopsidedness of the affectional nature.

So that hyper-sexual Jupiter in Scorpio would tend to be extra ‘pumped up’ in a tense way by a self-absorbed Mercury in Leo and a Uranian ‘love nature which is unusual and lopsided in some way.’

The Leo theme continues in his chart. First of all he is a Leo, someone who came to the rescue of a group of people in a previous life through an act of courageous leadership but, in this life, they can be proud and arrogant and think that they are the principal actor and everything revolves around them. (Adding to that type of Leo self-absorbed theme)

Kevin Spacey also has the similar Pluto/Mars connection, as did Harvey Weinstein. As I said before, Astrologer Liz Greene once said that Pluto/Mars aspects show up a large percentage of times in the charts of both rapists and rape victims.

Spacey’s Pluto/Mars aspect is a conjunction rather than a square.

Now there seems to be no official birth time available for Spacey in order to determine his Rising Sign and his Houses.

One Astrologer noted, however, that in the movie K-Pax the character played by Kevin Spacey says he was born on July 27 at 5:51 am. Noting that Spacey was in fact born the day before on July 26, and 5:51 being a pretty specific time one could ponder whether he was using his actual birth time in that line in the movie.

Looking at the chart with that time, with a certain amount of confidence in my ability to feel if a chart ‘works’ or not, I would bet money that he was in fact born at 5:51 am.

For example, the Pluto/Mars conjunction falls in the 2nd House. Hilarion* doesn’t give a specific for Pluto there, but this is what he says Mars in the 2nd House:

Second House
When Mars is found in the second sector, there is present in the make-up a strongly passionate or physical side to the affections. Partners tend to be viewed as sexual objects first, mates second. The lesson is of course to realize that sexuality is merely the body’s way of expressing love, and that such expression is always incomplete unless it has the underpinning of a strong, committed emotional affection. If necessary, this lesson will be learned through the loss of love partners, and such losses must continue until the individual recognizes that sex by itself is an empty experience. Karmically, this placement suggests a string of previous lives in which others suffered due to the native’s sexual proclivities and the caprice that often comes with dalliance for its own sake. Thus in the current life must this individual likewise suffer, as he is attracted repeatedly to partners who are incapable of committing their affections into his care.

Being conjunct Pluto lends a pretty intense Plutonian transformational dimension to that Mars karma.

He actually has some potentially disciplining influence from Saturn harmonizing with that Pluto/Mars energy. And next year he will have his second ‘Saturn Return’ doubly enhancing his ability to get a ‘reality check’ on this part of his sexual curriculum.

The Saturns are in his 6th House of work, service, the way you spend your day. Being out of work is going to give him a lot of time to get real with the ramifications of having allowed this manipulative controlling overly passionate sexual energy to play out in selfish ways.

So all of this is easy relatable to the accusation of rather crazy (Uranus), self-absorbed (Leo), sexual abuses (Jupiter in Scorpio, Mars in the 2nd) which has been hidden away yet was using positions of power to indulge these negative tendencies (Pluto)

And yet what else does the chart tell us about Kevin Spacey?

Well his Sun in Leo is square to Neptune. This always creates some ‘confusion, illusion, delusion, victimhood and/or martyrdom’ involving one’s relationship with one’s father.

Well, I just now went to Wikipedia to see if there is something there about his childhood to reflect this. This is what I found:

Randy Fowler (Spacey’s older brother) has stated that their father, whom he described as a racist “Nazi supporter”, was sexually and physically abusive, and that Spacey had shut down emotionally and become “very sly and smart” to avoid whippings.

Usually Wikipedia is not so forthcoming with childhood details.

This description of his father is going to create the classic Neptunian ‘victim/victimizer’ program.

The 5:51 am chart also gives Kevin Spacey Leo Rising and the Sun in the First House to which Hilarion says:

Leo Rising:
When the sign Leo rises, there will be a tendency for the self-picture to be colored by the notions of elegance, specialness and superiority……. The reason for giving this Ascendant to an individual is to prompt him to think better of himself than he is in the habit of doing when in incarnation. . The rulership by the Sun thus lends to the individual certain bolstering influences in terms of how he sees himself, which are intended to teach him not to underestimate his own worth and not to feel inferior to others. In view of this explanation, it will be understood that those with Leo rising will often find that they are torn between thinking little and thinking a lot of themselves. Through the experience of this inner battle, it is hoped that they will ultimately learn that each person is complete and worthy in his own right, and that none are either superior or inferior.

A portion of the Sun in the First House:

Thus it will often be observed that one with the Sun in the first is adept at projecting a facade of strength, will and control over the environment, while inwardly there lurks a desperate fear that others will one day discover the incompetence or the unworthiness or the self-embarrassment which constantly echoes, like a mocking laugh, up from the depths of subconscious recollection.

This Sun in the First House is something he shares with Bernie Sanders, John Kerry, and I believe (uncertain birth time) Hillary Clinton. All people who are good at looking stronger than they are.

Now, on a more positive note, the 5:51 birth time also gives Kevin Spacey Venus in the 2nd House, although unaspected, thus making it more difficult for him to consciously own that Venus energy.

This is what Hilarion says about Venus in the 2nd:

Second House
The placement of Venus in the second house is in many ways an ideal positioning for the planet of love. The second house corresponds to the sign Taurus, which is ruled by Venus. Unless the planet is severely afflicted in the second, one may assume that the love nature of the individual is stable and genuine, and that the waters of the soul’s affection run very deep. Here is one who knows that love is a constant flame. Under dire affliction, this placement of Venus can point to the need to unblock certain avenues of affection that have become closed. Sometimes there is a tendency to lavish love on the body, thus leading to a self-indulgent or sensuous streak. Other than these possible problems little else need be said. (End Quote)

I feel that that very sensitive love nature is also there inside of Kevin Spacey. Obviously the tendencies in his chart leading to a ‘self-indulgent or sensuous streak’ are going to be major parts of his Astrological curriculum which would limit his access to that much more loving energy.

Right now transiting Neptune is exactly opposite that Venus. I think he can feel his Venus now, but with a major Neptunian ‘test of faith’ as to whether the negative expressions of all of his Leo/Scorpio/Mars/Pluto karmic elements will make it such that he will never be believed or be able to fully manifest the truly sensitive, loving nature of his Venus.

I think he was inspired to become an actor to have some access to that positive sensitive emotional energy. Later, however, he gravitated to darker roles.

Now he has to live his real life, all of it, the good, the bad and the ugly.

For the rest of us, the enigmatic portrayal of Frank Underwood, with both his potentially truly sensitive loving energies, and those appearances of sensitive loving energies masking incredibly dark, selfish, controlling destructive manipulative energies will be even more, enigmatic.

Harvey Weinstein, Sex and Jupiter into Scorpio

(Richard Shotwell / Associated Press)

I just thought it was curious that the first allegations about Harvey Weinstein’s proclivity for sexual harassment came out just a few days before Jupiter went into Scorpio. And on the day that Jupiter went into Scorpio:

According to Wikipedia:

In The New Yorker on October 10, 2017, Ronan Farrow reported further allegations that Weinstein had assaulted or harassed 13 women, and raped three of them.

Jupiter is large expansiveness and can be exaggerated, ‘over the top’ and fanatical. Scorpio is the sign of sex, birth and death.

Here is what Hilarion says about Jupiter in Scorpio:

Now I always tell my clients that that last statement, about a strong sex drive being part of a positively aspected Jupiter in Scorpio, shows that Hilarion himself is not a prude. He is not against sex. This tendency, however, to overemphasize the physical aspect of love shows up in about 75% of our charts in one way or another.

Harvey Weinstein's Chart

Harvey Weinstein has a powerful Jupiter in his chart, hence his ‘bigness’ in many ways. It wasn’t in Scorpio but he did have Mars in Scorpio square to Pluto.

I remember Astrologer Liz Greene once saying that Pluto/Mars aspects show up a high frequency of times in the charts of both rapists and rape victims.

Here is what Hilarion says about Mars in Scorpio:

Scorpio
Scorpio is ruled by Mars, and the martian energies have full expression through this sign. In Scorpio, the martian energies are found mainly in the sexual area and thus the lesson is to avoid sexual excesses, regardless of aspect. The worse the aspects, the harder it will be to control the sexual nature. Another point that can usually be made with Mars in Scorpio afflicted is that a karmic loss must be undergone in the life — a separation from someone with whom strong sexual ties have been forged. This is, of course, to prompt the individual to place less emphasis on the sexual outlet for the energies.

A square to Pluto is pretty well afflicted.

As far as that karmic loss, well his wife, Georgina Chapman, announced that she was separating from him on that same fateful day of October 10th.

Jupiter will be in Scorpio until November 2018 and it is bound to bring some expansive viewing of some of the secret Scorpionic energies of our lives and our society. Of course this could also create some juicy energies around positive sexual experience for us as well.

Hilarion says that the way in which we experience sexuality now doesn’t give a glimpse of the power and grandeur it will be for us in the New Age.
